The businessman recalls the importance of vaccines reaching all countries of the world
Just a few days ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that COVID-19 infections have been remitting globally for six weeks. After a third wave marked by new strains of the virus, from the British to the Brazilian to the South African, the restrictions of the different countries to combat the new coronavirus outbreak, together with the progress in the vaccination process in the different countries, have helped to relax the situation.
Despite the positive news, experts from different countries have called on their respective governments to continue maintaining the necessary restrictions to prevent the fourth wave of the disease. Among them the German virologist Christian Drosten, who recognizes that the relaxation of the measures could lead to a fourth wave of infections much harsher than the previous ones. For the same reason, and despite the fact that the number of infections and deaths has decreased in recent weeks, there is still a long way to go before the long-awaited normality can be reached.
Bill Gates predicts when we will be able to travel as before
When can we travel like before? On this issue, the businessman Bill Gates has spoken recently, who recently predicted during a talk broadcast on the Clubhouse platform that there is still enough left for us to travel normally. According to statements collected by the newspaper NewsWeek, Bill Gates assumes that we will not be able to go around the world until “sometime in 2022.”
Although the vaccination rate is increasing thanks to the different vaccines on the market, the businessman acknowledges that there is still a lot of work to be done. And it is that, despite the fact that developed countries have begun to vaccinate their population, there are still a large number of nations that have not received units. A reality that takes us away, at least for the moment, from the long-awaited normality.
According to the founder of Microsoft, the key to achieving normality is to bring the vaccine to every corner of the planet: “The Gates Foundation is working hard to make this happen. We have opened several factories in India that have a very high volume of production”. Therefore, and until inequity in the distribution of vaccines in different nations is fought, the businessman recognizes that we will not be able to travel globally.
Something that, from his point of view, we will not achieve until next year. Therefore, Bill Gates assumes, as several experts from different branches have done, that 2021 will be a bridge year in which we will gradually recover normality but in which we will not be able to do everything we would like. And, despite the fact that some nations have managed to slow down the advance of the disease, there are still others that have not been able to do so.
