In 1971 Apollo 14 launched a mission to the Moon, which ended with Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell walking on the satellite. However, Stuart Roosa was also on the mission, who carried in his personal equipment around 500 seeds of pine, gum, sequoia or fir, which later became known as lunar trees or trees of the Moon.
After the mission, the Roosa seeds, which traveled in the Kitty Hawk command module, already germinated on Earth and were planted, not only in the United States, but also in other parts of the world. Now, these trees can be visited all over the planet and are distinguished by the plaque where it is indicated that it is a lunar tree, as explained by NASA.
