The stations designed and made in their day by Prudencio Zorzo return to the garden of the Carmelite Fathers and can be visited with time and public restrictions
The Board of Confraternities of Segovia has installed this weekend the traditional stations of the Via Crucis in the garden of the Convent of the Carmelite Fathers. The confreres and Segovians in general will be able to visit it to pray the Stations of the Cross with limited hours and people.
To access the garden it will be possible during the same opening hours as the convent church, that is, in the morning, from 10 am to 1 pm; and in the afternoon, from 4pm to 7pm. The entry of groups with a maximum of 6 people will be allowed, and those interested must pass through the gate to identify themselves and receive access authorization.
The enclosure welcomes one of the most significant events of our Holy Week at the fall of Holy Wednesday afternoon, such as the Via Crucis. This usually has the assistance of the Bishop of the Diocese and a massive prayer becomes for the stations that describe the passion and death of Jesus Christ. The act is accompanied by the image of the Christ of the Good Death, the carving of the chapel of the Santo Ángel de la Guarda Cemetery, carried by the confreres on simple litters.
The image at dusk of hundreds of Segovians following the prayer of the seasons, with candles lit against the background of the monumental profile of Segovia, make the night of Holy Wednesday one of the unique moments of our passion week.
This year the Board of Confraternities of Segovia and the Carmelite Fathers are pending to specify the formula to be able to make this act reach the public through social networks and the media.
Prudencio Zorzo was the author of the designs and who drew up the fourteen stations of the Via Crucis that since 1994 has been installed in the garden of the Carmelite Fathers. Made of metal and playing with different dimensions, they offer an original handicraft work that identifies the various moments of the passion of Jesus Christ, as they are followed in the holy Via Crucis.
Zorzo, who died in 2017, was also the promoter of the Brotherhood of San Marcos, and one of the great historical names of Segovian Holy Week. From his hands came many of the floats and steps of the Segovian brotherhoods, as well as works as valuable as the artisan lanterns that the San Marcos caps carry every year.
He is also the author of the float in which the image of the Virgen de la Fuencisla appears in procession every September in its processional transfer to the Cathedral of Segovia from its sanctuary for the celebration of the novena in her honor.
