Lake Como is a place that despite its beauty is not well known to us. The fault surely lies in being located in a country that has great tourist attractions such as Rome, Florence or Venice. But if you are one of those who like to discover new places that are less beaten by tourism, we will show you the best options to get to this idyllic and romantic corner of northern Italy.
How to get to Lake Como
By car: Barcelona is about 1,000 km from Lake Como and about 10 and a half hours away, therefore it is perfectly accessible by car. From Madrid the distance increases to 1,622 km and 16 and a half hours of travel.
By plane: Fortunately, those of you who do not want to take a car have several options to go by plane and many at low cost, since Lake Como is very close to Milan, a city that has many flights to Spain.
Milan Malpensa Airport: Milan’s second airport is about 58 km or 50 minutes from Como, therefore it is an option to take into account, especially since there are several low cost companies that fly there. Once at the airport, the best option is to rent a car, although it is also possible to travel by train to Milan from the same airport and from there take a coach to Lake Como. Vueling operates direct flights from Barcelona, Ibiza, Valencia and Bilbao. Easyjet also travels to Milan and has direct flights from Barcelona, Ibiza, Madrid, Malaga, Mallorca, Menorca and Tenerife.
Milan Linate Airport: Located 64 km and 1 hour and a quarter from Como but despite its proximity, there are few flights from Spain, we only find them from Madrid with Iberia and from Barcelona with Alitalia, but forget about cheap fares.
Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport: Although it is a little further than the first, specifically 63 km and an hour and a half away, it can be a great option especially if you take into account that Ryanair has one of its bases in the Italian city and therefore cheap rates are assured. Flights that cover almost all of Spain and that we detail below: Alicante, Barcelona, Fuerteventura, Girona, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Santander, Santiago, Seville, Tenerife, Valencia and Zaragoza. To travel to Lake Como, the best option will be the rental car, since there are no shuttles that operate connections.
The Swiss airport would be the best option because it is located only 36 km and 49 minutes away if it were not for the fact that there are no direct flights from Spain, the only possibility being flights with a stopover in Zurich and with very high prices.
