They will give priority to those who work on international flights
Pilots and crew members of airline companies, as well as personnel from other transport sectors, will be included in Chile’s vaccination schedule next week. They estimate that there would be about 2,700 airline workers included in this stage.
The airlines in Chile estimate that there would be about 2,700 workers who perform operational functions in flight and who will be qualified to receive the Covid-19 vaccine next week, reported Pulso de La Tercera.
The figure includes the crew of LATAM, Sky, JetSmart and almost a hundred Chilean officials from American Airlines, reported from the airline industry.
The airlines affirm that the vaccination will provide greater safety for crews and passengers, but will not affect a greater or lesser supply of seats or frequencies, since operations depend on passenger demand and the restrictions of each country.
“We are not going to fly neither more nor less with vaccination,” said a source from the air sector.
In January, the managers of the three local airlines had met with the Chilean Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, to request the inoculation of his critical personnel.
IATA has raised since the beginning of the year the need to vaccinate its staff, especially its employees in critical areas: the crew, especially those who fly abroad and who, after each return, had to quarantine in the country.
The official vaccination calendar of the Chilean Ministry of Health will include from March 15 to 21 the personnel of land, air and maritime transport companies.
Gabriela Peralta, the general manager of IATA in Chile told Pulso that “although it has been shown that it is possible to resume activities following the appropriate protocols, we trust that vaccination will allow everyone to feel safe in different environments and thus be able to go recovering sectors such as aviation, which have an important social and economic role “.
