In 2022 it will receive 40 machines of this model; those 25 would arrive in 2023
After returning to operation after more than 20 months on the ground, the Boeing 737 MAXs are once again the protagonists of the United States’ fleet renewal plan. The company has 188 machines of this model on order, and is scheduled to receive 40 of them next year. Now it announced the acquisition of another 25, which would be added in 2023.
In December 2020, the United States Government authorized the return to the skies of the Boeing 737 MAX, after spending more than 20 months on the ground after the two fatal accidents in Indonesia and Ethiopia, and an extensive and deep process investigation that found serious flaws in the navigation system.
Without wasting time, the companies began to put these machines back into operation, as they sought to regain the confidence of the passengers.
In this framework, United Airlines announced this Monday, March 1, that it will acquire 25 MAXs to incorporate into its fleet in 2023, which means a strong commitment by the airline to this model and a boost to Boeing’s financial recovery.
It is worth remembering that United committed to acquire 188 MAX aircraft and that 40 of them were scheduled to join the fleet in 2022.
In this regard, Andrew Nocella, United’s commercial chief, said: “As we planned for the future and prepared for the return in demand, we have been looking at how to better position our fleet for recovery and be ready to respond to the desire. of people traveling. ”
This announcement also comes after a B777 with Pratt & Whitney engines had to make an emergency landing in Denver after the engine on the right wing suffered serious damage. After the fact, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) put those planes on the ground until further notice and reported that Boeing was preparing a redesign of the engine covers.
