You have probably noticed that lately, you get tired faster and are less productive. Lack of concentration, tiredness and lack of appetite are symptoms of what we know as autumnal asthenia.

Autumnal asthenia, like spring asthenia, is a common alteration that our body suffers caused by the process of adaptation to the changes of season. The changes in temperature in the last week, the decrease in sunlight, and not knowing what to wear do not help to receive autumn with optimism. And if we add to that the nostalgia for summer vacations, that when you look in the mirror, you look whiter than milk and that you can no longer wear your fantastic summer dresses, everything turns gray.

The “culprits” are the hormones that regulate our body and sometimes have difficulty adapting to changes, so we feel weaker.

Autumnal asthenia is an adaptive process of the organism to the change of season. It is not a disease, so don’t worry. ‘It will end up happening! Still, there are some things you can do to feel better and contribute to your well-being.

Sleep the necessary hours

The first thing you can do, although it seems a cliché is to rest the necessary hours. After the holidays, the return to the routine is hard, and, normally, you feel tired after returning to work. Asthenia makes us feel tired at any time of the day, so it is important to maintain a stable routine and go to bed and get up at the same time.

Fall is one of the times of the year to enjoy a good night’s sleep. The climatic conditions are ideal for being able to sleep 8 hours a day without affecting work performance.

Set new goals

The school year begins in September, and these months are perfect for setting new resolutions and undertaking projects you had set for yourself in January and had not yet done. Doing things that stimulate you is a good form of motivation to combat asthenia.

Take advantage of daylight hours.

Since one of the main causes of asthenia is the reduction of sunlight, it is logical that another of the things you can do to combat it is to go outside and take advantage of sunlight. This increases serotonin and reduces the presence of melatonin.

Eat healthily and play sports.

When the defences go down, a good attack is to watch your diet; drinking plenty of water and doing some sports is crucial to help your immune system.

A diet rich in fruits and vegetables that provide vitamins and fibre is important to combat fatigue. On the other hand, sport helps us release endorphins that make us feel better.

Avoid stressful situations

We know that this point is complicated, but autumn is a good time for you to do a little analysis of those things or people that cause you stress. Identifying these situations is the first step to avoiding them. And it is that changing what you do not like in your life will help you start this new stage on the right foot.

And as an extra, if you want to cheer up, you can get one of our leather bags this fall. Leather bags with elegant and functional shapes are prepared to accompany you at any time of the day.
Autumn asthenia is much less mentioned than spring, but it also exists. It is a state of fatigue, apathy and weakness that occurs with the change of season, from summer to autumn. The body can have difficulties adapting to seasonal changes, especially when it goes from holidays to work or school routine.

Other reasons for feeling some discomfort during the fall are reducing the number of hours with sunlight and the drop in temperatures. All these circumstances can affect the mood of children, youth and adults; however, the consultation of women between 25 and 50 is more common.

In most cases, the symptoms are usually mild and last only a few days. The biorhythms adjust to the autumn routine in a couple of weeks at most. And it is also advisable to regain proper sleep habits to sleep at least 6-7 hours each night.

The Official College of Pharmacists of Madrid has listed a series of symptoms related to autumnal asthenia:

Tiredness.
Drowsiness.
Soft spot.
Apathy.
Concentration problems.
Irritability.
Less appetite
Decreased libido

Healthy habits and vitamins for fall

If the discomfort lasts more than a month, the person should go to the doctor to rule out other pathologies such as anemia or hypothyroidism. The best recommendation for these people is to practice healthy lifestyle habits. Maintaining a balanced diet, having good sleep routines, and doing physical exercise regularly are usually sSee the best tips to avoid a possible lowering of the defences.

Sometimes it can also be useful to strengthen the body by taking vitamins for the fall. Thus, vitamin A is beneficial for bones, vision, skin and, in general, for the body’s defences. On the other hand, vitamin E acts as an antioxidant substance, protecting elements such as fats from oxidative stress.
The return to normality in autumn

The good evolution of the pandemic in Spain has caused the relaxation of certain preventive measures to avoid contagion by COVID-19. One of these measures has already been relaxed before the summer, as the obligation is to wear a mask outdoors whenever possible to maintain a safe distance. This suggests that perhaps this fall of 2021, there may be more infections from other diseases, such as the flu or the common cold, than in previous situations with stricter restrictions.

In addition, children tend to be the ‘best transmitters’ of influenza viruses, so the beginning of the school year also increases infections among minors and their families.
Get over the change of season at the office.

Autumn is coming, and not only does the weather change, but also our body. Although the definitive word would not be “change,” it is true that at this time, our body undergoes certain transition episodes. In other words, we are talking precisely about autumnal asthenia. A stage that we all go through to a greater or lesser degree and that, therefore, does not affect everyone equally. It is, after all, a process of adaptation of the body to seasonal changes.

As a general rule, the most common symptoms are: low mood, lack of appetite, difficulty concentrating, tiredness, decreased defences, drowsiness … As we can see, they are factors that have a direct effect not only on the day-to-day of those who suffer them but also in the workplace. That is why from Prevent, we want to offer you some tips to combat autumn asthenia and that it does not play a negative role in your health.

Face autumn with these tips

The first thing to keep in mind is that autumnal asthenia is temporary. That is, it is not a permanent episode, and in principle, we should not worry. If we observe that the symptoms do not stop over time, then it is advisable to go to a specialist.

With that said, the first big tip is to deal with stressful situations. This means adopting a positive attitude towards new challenges and the new course. Stay away from negative thoughts and trust your abilities. Also, set goals to continue growing as a professional to boost your motivation. Remember that to carry out all this, and we must accustom our body to normal hours: respecting the hours of sleep and rest. This way, we will avoid situations of fatigue and drowsiness.

Take advantage of the rest hours in the office to go outside and take advantage of the natural light. Also, remember that food and exercise are essential, as well as hydration. In autumn, our defences go down. That is why we must provide our body with the nutrients and vitamins it needs to perform properly. Exercise will also help you release endorphins, the hormone that produces the greatest sense of well-being.
